Oh, and here is a 240kg Front Squat he did in the 2015 Asian Championships training hall.

Not a PR as he has done at least 250kg in training

I think this was the heaviest (as in percentage of world record) lift that happened in the 2015 Worlds Training Hall.

Daniyar Ismayilov (69kg, Turkey) snatching 160kg. That’s 96.3% of Liao Hui’s world record (166kg).

Later in competition he was able to replicate this lift on his 2nd attempt, which earned him the Snatch gold medal.

Oh and he also Clean & Jerked up to 180kg that session.

Max Lang Clean Pulls Tutorial

“Zug Eng!”

That’s not a Rammstein song, but German for Clean Pull (lit. translation “Pull Narrow”).

In this video Max Lang goes over the first phase (“First Pull” – the pull to hips). Second Pull is the high pull to belly button / chest. He’ll cover that in his Snatch Pull video.

Max emphasises:

  • being able to see your toes when you look down. Bar mid foot.
  • externally rotating the legs so that the knees can get out of the way during the pull
  • keep your back angle the same, keeping your butt down
  • Shoulders over the bar, or slightly in front, arms straight
  • Max wants you to have thigh contact as soon as possible
  • you can utilize the shoulder shrug at the top, “definitely not a mistake”
  • stresses the importance of doing it correctly, not going too heavy too soon

Common Errors:

  • butt comes up first, which means you pull mostly using your back. In the long run that’s not the healthiest of ways.
  • rounded back, lack of tension in back, too heavy loads
  • you don’t pull using the entire food (weight shifting onto toes for example), lack of concentration, wrong footwear
  • too close or too far away from the bar. Bloody shins means bar too close. No thigh contact means bar too far away.

English subtitles will follow soon.

Here are clips from the 85kg Warm Up Area at the 2015 World Weightlifting Championships.

It was pretty busy in there. You focus on one lifter and you miss 2 attempts happening behind your back. And before you know it you already have to rush back out to capture the last competition lifts.

Let’s start with the snatches. World champion Artem Okulov, Apti Aukhadov, Tian Tao, Kianoush Rostami going head to head.

The Clean & Jerk video (with more footage) follows the next days.

Mart Seim 400kg Squat + Q&A

Meanwhile in Estonia …

Mart Seim Back Squatted 400kg today. A big milestone for the 25 year old.

No belt. No wraps.

Below the video is a quick Q&A. Follow him @martseim on instagram.

Of course I had to ask Mart a couple of questions…

Gregor: So what’s next?

Mart: Now the main focus is lifting (classic lifts) and Pulls again.

Gregor: the 400kg came quicker than I expected.

Mart: It was a little surprise for me too.

Gregor: When did you know that today was the day?

Mart: Just before the 400

Gregor: What were your warm up attempts?

Mart:

  • 70/2×3
  • 120/3
  • 170/1
  • 220/1
  • 270/1
  • 320/1
  • 360/1
  • 400/1

Gregor: 360 must have been fast today?

Mart: Nope :) I still didn’t have the best feeling.

Gregor: but you just thought “let’s try 400”?

Mart: Well 400 was a motivating number. Now I have more time to focus on other things.

Gregor: Any specific numbers you want to hit on Pulls?

Mart: I don’t do max with Pulls. Just want to get Pulls feeling easy.

Gregor: Okay and how will your Squat training look like from now on?
once a week I will do some sets with 350kg or something like that
Mart: So far I did Squats as the first exercise in my training sessions.

Now I will do squats at the end of my training sessions.

I want to keep that strength. So once a week I will do some sets with 350kg or something like that.

I will squat 3 times per week.

  • Monday: Front Squat
  • Wednesday: Back Squat
  • Friday: some higher rep sets, like 270/6 or something. Light weight, but something to keep the legs working.
