Marcin Dolega Suspended by Polish Weightlifting Federation

Meanwhile in Poland …

Marcin Dolega supposedly tested with elevated levels of norandrosterone (nandrolone or its derivatives) at the 2014 President’s Cup :(

Maybe Polish readers can help and translate what is being written here and here, as I don’t want to make false statements.

Here is the situation as I understand it right now.

The excess of doping threshold is said to be very little and Marcin is hoping that test B will prove him innocent. The results of the B sample will be known in 2 weeks.

Due to the suspicion of drug use the Polish Weightlifting association has suspended Marcin for the time being until there is a full explanation for this. That means he will not compete at the 2014 World Championships. He was supposed to lift at nationals last weekend, where he was seen the day before the competition, but did not show up the next day for his session (citing back injury).

If he is found to be guilty this would be his second offense (after his 2 year ban in 2004) which would result in a lifetime ban.

Thanks to everybody who submitted this.

Translation

Big thanks to Steve and Toh Jia Jun.

The Chinese weightlifting team has already been training for international competition for a good portion of the year, and this competition was held to test how the training was coming along. This is a fairly important competition in regards to the competition in September (I think they are referring to the Chinese Nationals.[or Asian Games -G.]) Most of the athletes performed fairly well. Lifters don’t have to make weight for this competition, but standards are still very strict.

Liao hui says that he hasn’t been able to Clean and Jerk 200kg in training for a bit (10kg off from his 210kg training best), but in competition he feels more energized and focused. While he hasn’t hit this weight in competition, he believes he has the ability to hit this weight, which is why in competition he’s sometimes stronger than in training (more focus.)

His coach (the head coach of the national team) said that in the period leading up to this test competition, they focused their training “on the basics”perfecting technique and building strength. He then said that while the lifters here did not lift under strict competition requirements (e.g. not cutting weight), it was important for them to periodically assess their progress.

The head coach basically says that the competition helps them decide which athletes to send to competitions as they can see which athletes can perform well and see who can “utilize” what they learned in training during competitions. He said to send the top 8 lifters to the 2014 Asian games in September.

With this lift she set a new national record, which was previously held by 2004 Olympic champion Nataliya Skakun, who now coaches Yuliya.

At the 2014 World Championships she will compete against Tima TurievaTzu Chi Lin, Deng Wei in what will probably be one of the best sessions on the women’s side.

China’s Liao Hui has done it again, beaten world records that is.

He went for a World record in the Snatch with 166kg and a new total World Record with 359kg at his second Clean and Jerk, he skipped his last attempt.

Dmitry Klokov is currently at the World Championships and having a look.
While he is there he figures he can get some training lifts in, who wouldn’t want to train amongst other world champions?

His Bodyweight is currently 110kg, this 200kg snatch is the first time snatching 200 since his preparation for London Olympics 2012.

Oh, and did i mention that he injured his back not even a week ago? He can’t Clean and Jerk, Squat or Deadlift because of it.

Ilya Ilyin 242kg Clean and Jerk World Record Almaty 2014

This years 105kg world weightlifting championship category was filled with emotion and drama. First came Simon Martirosyan breaking his own world record Snatch and attempting to break his own Total world record. Then came the race to first place.

David Bedzhanyan, Ruslan Nurudinov and Ilya Ilyin were all closely tied after the Snatch phase. Everyone pushing each other to the limit as every kilo would count going into the Clean and Jerk event. The first piece of drama came as Bedzhanyan missed his second attempt at 236kg. Nurudinov and Ilyin both placed 239kg as their next attempts to break Bedzhanyan’s old 238kg record. Ilyin is first up, he misses his attempt at 239kg, leaving him with one attempt left and time to choose his next weight. Nurdinov breaks the first world record at 239kg leaving Ilyin needing 242kg to win the championships by virtue of bodyweight. Bedzhanyan was next up with 240kg and less than a minute after his record was taken away from him by Nurudinov he steals it back. In a final rush of excitement Ilyin wins the gold medal in the Clean and Jerk by shattering the record set less than a minute beforehand with a heroic attempt at 242kg. Ilya goes on to win the world championships 105kg category in the total.

It’s worth noting that Ilya is undefeated in international competition. He currently holds seven world records:

  • Youth world records: 170kg Snatch, 216kg Clean and Jerk and a 386kg Total at 85kg
  • Junior world record: 386kg Total at 85kg
  • Senior world records: 233kg Clean and Jerk, 418kg Total at 94kg and a 242kg Clean and Jerk at 105kg

You can watch the full competition here.
